I was introduced to volleyball for the first time when my sister started playing in 7th grade. I was in 3rd grade at the time and started playing for our local YMCA in Omaha, Nebraska. I immediately took to the sport of volleyball and continued playing until I could join my school team in 5th grade. It wasn't evident initially, to my parents at least, that volleyball was the sport for me. They had me doing private lessons to improve my footwork and that coach encouraged them to get me into playing club volleyball. I started playing club at age 13 and really began to develop as a player!
I played on many great club teams over the years and had the opportunity to go to USA Volleyball Nationals at the Open level every year. A couple of those years we finished top 10 in the country. I was also fortunate to play on a great high school team. I was a starter on the varsity squad all four years and lead my team to two third place finishes and back-to-back state titles my junior and senior seasons. Six players on my high school team went on to play volleyball in college. I had many opportunities to continue playing volleyball after high school. I chose to continue my volleyball and academic career at the University of Missouri-Columbia. As a freshman, I received Big 12 accolades including a spot on the All-Big 12 Freshman Team. My junior season I helped lead our team to the school's first Southeastern Conference Championship. I had the opportunity to compete in two NCAA tournaments during my time as a Tiger! During college, my sister and I coached a local club team together for two years. I decided to stay with the Mizzou volleyball team after graduation to earn my Master's degree and act as their Director of Operations for two years. After earning my Master's degree, I married my college sweetheart and we moved to New York for a year! I had the incredible opportunity to be the Volunteer Assistant Coach for the women's volleyball team at the United States Military Academy at West Point. After moving back to the Midwest this past summer, I began helping Yvette Pearce with MYSL and have since been given the opportunity to coach the 12's team with Static. I am looking forward to a great season and getting to share my knowledge and enthusiasm for the game with these Missouri youth! |
